Make Your Coconut Milk
To release the coconut from the shell, remove the water and place the coconut in the oven or directly over the stove flame until it begins to crack. Use a hammer or a similar tool to break the shell. Remove the flesh and blend the coconut pieces with warm water for approximately 3 minutes. Strain the mixture. The coconut milk will settle overnight in the refrigerator (the 'solid' part is the coconut cream). To return the milk to its original form, emulsify with an immersion blender or mix well. Shelf life: 3 days in the refrigerator, 90 days frozen.
